Dolphin: file browsing got slow with kdeconnect

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.5.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2
Kernel Version: 6.10.9-arch1-2 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

Dolphin: Version 24.08.1
Kdeconnect: 24.08.1-1

Hello,

Since above specs, i.e recently, browsing a remote file system in dolphin via kdeconnect has become very slow. It seems that it digs slowly through all directories in a folder before a click on an item is taken into account. Previously, any action on an item was immediate. It’s hard to say if it’s dolphin or kdeconnect or other libraries implied. And all tweaks with ‘preview’ settings do not help. Browsing another remote FS mounted by sshfs over ethernet is not impacted.

Can it be reproduced by someone else?

Thanks.

Hello,

I’m also on Arch Linux and I experience the same issue.

KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.6.0
Qt Version: 6.7.3
Kernel Version: 6.10.10-arch1-1 (64-bit)
kdeconnect: 24.08.1-1

KDE Connect: 1.32.2

Most of the time Dolphin freezes completely and I have to kill it, sometimes it goes zombie until I kill the parent process or the corresponding sshfs process.

Thanks you.

— Edit: On the other hand, it doesn’t look like it is dolphin related, it is probably sshfs related…

Dolphin responds again if I wait sufficiently.

Whatever… let’s home some developer picks it up.

At least I know it’s not on my machine only, thanks.

Meanwhile I also found these related issues in KDE bug-tracker : #443155 and #477673 (it seems I’m not allowed to post links, but you may find them on bugs.kde.org).

There are some workarounds / possible solutions (?) posted there, like updating KDE Connect on Android to version 1.32.*, but for me it is not working with KDE Connect: 1.32.2.

I have this issue on 4 phones (all my family), it started about two weeks ago, I don’t remember exactly.

I had the same problem, file access no longer works in KDE Connect from Google Play, I had to install it from F-Droid. I know it’s off-topic in this bug, but it might help someone.

Exactly the same problem started with me about one month ago. Dolphin goes into a coma for sometimes up to half a minute before it becomes active again and reacts to my mouse commands.

For me this is a real nuisance since I use kdeconnect with dolphin to sync folders by unison. This has now become impossible.

Has anybody found out what the problem is and how to solve it?

Does it work again when you install from F-droid? How do you do that?

If in directory D, directories A, B and C contain hundreds of files, dolphin/kio/kdeconnect/whatever will recurse into them in the foreground blocking any interaction. If you delete A, B and C, dolphin becomes interactive quicker.

What’s sure, files were immediately available when entering any folder a few months ago.

Only developers recognizing the issue and willing to spend time can resolve this.

Reverting to an older version of kdeconnect might (temporarily) resolve it since the problem only started recently.

The problem is where to find this older version.

The same problem. Dolphin froze immediately after trying to browse my phone. Does anyone know how to solve it, please?
OpenSuse Tumbleweed, Plasma 6.2.4, KDEconnect 24.08.3-1.2, Galaxy S23+

F-Droid version worked perfectly. Thanks.

Does this mean the error is in the Android KDE Connect app, not on the PC (where KDE Connect and Dolphin are running)?

Appears to be the case
