Dolphin file manager location bar change

In with latest 6.3.3 update the location bar looks more modular. I’d like to know more about it or atleast what the reason for the change was. Could someone please point me to the release notes or what this change is called? I’ve looked at Plasma 6.3 - KDE Community and some articles about it can’t seem to find it. For reference, this is how the location bar now looks for me in breeze light:

Software versions:

KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.12.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Graphics Platform: Wayland
System Version: 1.0

Is there any way to restore the old location bar style?
I have been using KDE for 10 years because I want to have my UI look the way I want it and have it stay that way. Having it randomly change on me like this against my will is a real nuisance.

  • It looks pretty weird with my setup and colorscheme. I was really surprised, it’s totally white which such background.

  • It also feels buggy when editing. The edit field height doesn’t fit the widget.

And, after all, I agree with Yora. Previous design looked like more “Kde-ish” than this new one which looks like more “Gnome-ish”.

The next version will be more like the old one. All I ask for is patience, it will hopefully be merged soon TM.

It uses a bit different color, and the edit field height bug should also be fixed.

I also much prefer the previous location bar look. It was IMO perfect, I see no reason for change. I use KDE for 15 years and I fine tune my environment to what works the best for me. With such changes it would be nice to have at least an option to switch to keep the previous look.

I like the new look.

I find myself using the breadcrumb feature more often since the change, even though I’ve known about it since Dolphin’s earlier days.

I like more the previous look.

The best solution is make an option to turn on one style or the another.
