Dolphin setting to set default location for new tab.

Hey all.

Let me first say that I think dolphin has been wonderful and that all the settings I wanted to find in a file explorer, I could find.

Well, except for one. There’s 1 setting I would love to have and that is to set a default location for a new tab.

The current behavior is to open a new tab in the same location as the current tab but for me this is usually not convenient.

What do you all think?

A logical place for this setting would be in Interface > Folders & Tabs, I think.

I think the current behavior of using the same location as the current tab makes the most sense for common workflows.
I don’t usually mind more settings as long as the default is not changed, but you also have to be mindful of over-crowding the settings pages, making them confusing or even intimidating.

Also, I feel your use case is easily covered by adding your “default” folder to places (it probably already is?) and opening tabs by middle clicking there. Although I guess there is currently no way of creating keyboard shortcuts for this.

interface - show on startup.
Here you can set your desired default directory.
HTH.

Often when working with different tabs I am moving things between places that are not next to each other so I use my default place as a hub to easily get to most relevant places.

I don’t think it makes most sense, so I suppose it depends on whether there are more people that feel inclined one way or another.

Yeah, this is the only setting that I missed and would like to add.

There is a shortcut to go to the home folder (Default: Alt + Home) which I use instead so I can’t say this is any huge effort on my part

That sets the folder on startup, yes, and I have edited that, but I was hoping for a way to edit the default new tab location.
