Historically, KDE/Plasma’s display configuration page allowed just dragging the screens to edit the arrangement.
Since some relatively recent update (like 1-2 years ago) it’s not possible any longer until the “Edit Arrangement” button is clicked. A similar change has been done in MacOS earlier and I must say that in both systems it makes the life much harder.
On one hand it may seem as just one more click that has to be once in a blue moon. However, in many setups the screen arrangement has to be edited almost daily (hot desks in the office, connecting projectors, or in my case regularly using a TV connected to my desktop for gaming)
For a long time it was one of the huge user experience differences from MacOS and alike where coming to the office every morning meant going through many unnecessary clicks to setup the displays. While in KDE it was a matter of just opening Display Settings via krunner.
Another usability drawback is that the way the screens look in the non-editable mode (like in the screenshot) is no different from the edit mode (just the area is bigger and the button changes to “Collapse”). This often tricks the user into thinking they’re already in the edit mode and wasting even more mouse clicks to do the setup
Is it possible to either rollback this change and make the display arrangement be editable straight away (without the “Edit Arrangement” button) like it has always been, or make it configurable? Users who barely ever change the layout can use the current mode, while users who have to adjust the layout often can optimise the interface via a setting (maybe a config file?)
