Elisa crashes when changing default music directory to external drive.
Running KDE Neon 6.2 on Wayland. Does the same in the flatpak or desktop version. Anyone have a fix?
welcome.
my experience with it on kubuntu is that it’s pretty solid once it has a lock on your music library, but switching libraries or reconnecting when it’s moved or the disk isn’t mounted can throw it for a loop and cause it to not find things.
how often are you making this change to point to another library?
Thank you for the welcome
I’ve actually been using it as my default player since 2018ish. After the upgrade to plasma 6, I had a lot of bugs (not with elisa), so I reinstalled my system from scratch. Now everything is working well “except” elisa. My music default folder is on the same external drive (my music library too big to store in Home). It ran well before, and still does if your music is in the default folder. My music location is on the same drive it ran well with before. It’s just after reinstalling, when I “choose” the folder where my music is located (not the default), it crashes.
i’ve never used the default folder because my music has always been on my old windows disk.
and elisa def doesn’t like it when it can’t find the folder it’s pointed at.
there have definitely been times when plasma did not fully honor the automount settings in disks&devices, so i’ve had to go into the system tray and make sure my old windows disk was still checked in the configuration page (windata from the screen shot).
i’ve noticed when i leave the top box checked it behaves better, but when i uncheck those and just check the partitions i want to mount, things can get more dicey.
don’t know what your setup looks like, but i would check in there for how it’s configured.
Hi! Hmm, what you’re experiencing sounds related to a bug that was reported by someone a couple of years back, but didn’t seem to have others reporting it at the time: 458519 – Elisa crashes when launched from a desktop shortcut and/or after importing database from external drive.
@skyfishgoo brings up a good point - is your drive mounted via an automount in the System Settings Device Automount section, as shown in the screenshot above, or is it added directly via a listing in the /etc/fstab
file? That’s something I could imagine being setup differently - through no direct intent of your own - over the course of reinstalling everything, and perhaps that’s related to the crash somehow?
Thanks to you both for the assist. I followed the suggestion from @skyfishgoo and had my external drive set to auto-mount on login. That didn’t seem to be my issue. There is still a bug where it crashes whenever I click the “choose” button next to “initial location for files view”. Which was originally my Home/Music folder.
But I was doing it wrong regardless; my theme and window border prevented me from seeing that I could just scroll down to the “add new location”. Which I never could see before. So, completely user error and now I have access to my music. (Still crashes when selecting that “choose” button). Elisa is my favorite music player so glad I can use it again. Again thanks !
