Embed image support for KWrite

I know KWrite is just a plain text editor, but sometimes when I’m taking notes I need to insert or paste a screenshot from the clipboard. I get that something like Marknote is more suited for that, but KWrite still fits my needs better than any other note-taking app I’ve tried. It’s fast, lightweight, and lets me open a new file instantly, while other apps usually come with more tedious workflows. I’ve tried like 20 different note apps at this point but I just end up coming back to kwrite. I understand KWrite isn’t really a note-taking app, but it still works best for me.

UPDATE: I guess, I had to try the 21st app to find the one I needed: GitHub - marktext/marktext: 📝A simple and elegant markdown editor, available for Linux, macOS and Windows. · GitHub

Well, I might’ve found what I was looking for, actually:

I’ll update if it suits my needs

Marknotes is also very interesting

  • you can create a Notes folder and have a heirarchy of organised notes in markdown, use Marktext to edit single files and use Marknotes to manage the whole shebang.

For a dual-pane with preview, Ghostwriter is also a good option.

I already tried Marknote and I vaguely remember Ghostwriter. The problem with both is that they’re not simple enough when you launch the app I want it to instantly create a new file which I can save and name just like KWrite or Notepad on Windows. I tried Marktext and it was doing exactly that and also the interface was looking good. I’ll update on Ghostwriter and Maketext on Linux once I try them in a bit.

So I ended up with marktext, ghostwriter is at second place for me since when you paste an image it asks for the location to save the image while marktext handles it differently where you see the image immediately, it also has options for the image handling, you can even setup uploading to your preferred cloud service. Ideally though I’d want something like a “ghostwriter + marktext” app. I decided to stay with marktext for now, the only downside of it for me is the speed with which it’s starting is a bit slow, looking for solutions for that problem on arch, I’m using the AppImage maybe building it manually will give a faster executable, we’ll see. Thank you for suggesting ghostwriter, though!

UPDATE: Yeah just use AUR (en) - marktext-bin, a lot faster

UPDATE: Marktext literally offers every feature that I need, even the things that I haven’t mentioned in the post before because I forgot that I needed them
