External HDMI monitor detected but no HDMI signal

Hello, I have an external display that work pretty well with Windows so now I want to use it for my work, the screen is detected, I can see it in the config or in the screenshot window I see two desktop for example, but the screen stays black with “no HDMI source”. And the config keep resenting in loop with my other screen blinking, like the pc detect another screen.

My config:

  • endeavour os
  • kde / wayland
  • the screen I want to use is the asus proart PA169CDV
  • my pc is a TUXEDO pro gen 8

I try:

  • another HDMI cable = same
  • another screen with the same HDMI cable the other screen work
  • since the log say something about DDC/CI I try to add POWERDEVIL_NO_DDCUTIL=1 but that change nothing
  • try to install displaylink because the screen have usb-c but that change nothing either

I don’t know how to debug this situation and I try everything I know to find a solution, so if you have any hint or idea, thanks in advance

Some log and screenshot that can help:

ksyslog

  • before the red selection: this is when I plug the screen
  • the red selection is the reset
  • blue is when I disconnected the HDMI cable

In lspci I have the screen:

So in my lunch break I bought a new HDMI cable (4k, high speed), then I ate and all the while the screen was disconnected from the PC, which I had just “locked” with cmd + l.
When I came back from my break, I plugged in the cable and the screen worked, I restarted my PC and here I am back at square one with the exact same problem…

If I close the lid the screen turn on
So I’m thinking this behavior is probably caused by a software problem, no ?

Rather a config. Check whether you have mirroring or single screen enabled. It sounds like you have a single screen enabled.

Don’t know if you talk about that, but I can’t select anything. Is there any way to get this config via a config file, for example?

Ok that was very weird but your comment work I guess.

I changed to the middle option, then to extend to the right and the screen work now.

This is very weird since when I click on extend to the right nothing change at all

I am sure you can edit some config file, but using GUI config is easier. I am glad it you have worked it out.
