File associations are resetting - cannot make KWrite override Kate

I want KWrite to be my default program for plain text (.txt) files instead of Kate.

When I change it though, it constantly resets to putting Kate above KWrite.

I’m unable to change the default through the file associations menu, as well as Dolphin (right click → Open with).

This only seems to happen on plaintext. I can change the default for other file types. I am on KDE 6.3.0.

It is unclear to me if this is a bug. If it is, I will take it onwards to bugs.kde.org.

Maybe a old bug cropping back up. Awhile back before Plasma 6.3 when I would go to do my defaults to my liking they would default back to what they originally had been. The only way I could get it to behave was remove every other association just leaving the program I wanted the file type to open with.

Hi! As @BlueUSA mentioned, this looks like an instance of the following bug cropping up: 393700 – File type editor doesn't respect set order after pressing Apply

For as long-standing and intermittently reproduced as that bug has been, there’s likely something tricky about consistently tracking its origins or reproducing it on developer machines. If you’d like, you can at least add yourself to the CC list in Bugzilla to get email notifications whenever new comments are added or the status is changed
