Currently widgets sit directly on the desktop. That means they are hidden when I work with my computer. Is there a way to make them float on top of everything?
Oh ok. So it is not really possible, I guess. Pity.
lucky you. what would I do to entice this on my fresh Fedora 44 install?
Try using conkyâŚ
conky.config = {
-- Conky settings
background = true,
update_interval = 5,
double_buffer = true,
no_buffers = true,
-- Window specifications
gap_x = 310,
gap_y = 5,
alignment = 'top_right',
own_window = true,
own_window_type = 'dock',
own_window_transparent = true,
own_window_argb_visual = true,
own_window_argb_value = 100,
own_window_hints = 'undecorated,above,skip_taskbar,skip_pager',
own_window_class = 'conkyclock',
-- Text
use_xft = true,
-- xftalpha = 0.5,
font = 'Sakana :size=24',
-- font = 'SF Pro Display :black:italic:size=20',
default_color = '#45B7D1',
};
conky.text = [[${time %H:%M}]];
This position is generally mostly out of the way for me, but I can toggle it off and on with my âlauncherâ scripts, I have one to kill them all and then start a basic setup, another to check then either kill, or launch (the toggle) and finally one to launch all conkies including extra informational (like processes) which run for a while before timing out.
My default startup/refresher:
#!/bin/bash
killall conky
sleep 1
conky -d -c ~/Dropbox/Admin/conky/c0-time.conky
conky -d -c ~/Dropbox/Admin/conky/c0-date.conky
conky -d -c ~/Dropbox/Admin/conky/c2-network.conky
conky -d -c ~/Dropbox/Admin/conky/c4-disk.conky
conky -d -c ~/Dropbox/Admin/conky/c1-information.conky
