With the recent announcement that X11 support will be going the way of the dodo sooner than expected, what’s the future KDE on non-linux platforms? FreeBSD can kinda do wayland and it’s getting better but it isn’t nearly as well supported as X11, OpenBSDs wayland support is very very experimental, and those are just the two most common non-linux KDE platforms. It’d be sad to see Plasma become effectively linux-only with secret unofficial FreeBSD support. Do you think there will be hacky ways to get Plasma to work on X11?

Our applications have and will continue to support X11. For Plasma then yes, platforms which have previously lacked Wayland support will become unsupported. But the reasons detailed in the blog post still apply. Keep in mind that the BSDs can only become better supported in time for the removal of the session, we’re still quite a ways away from that.
