Gwenview - moving multiple files

I’m having trouble moving files using Gwenview.

Steps:

  1. Select more then one image in Gwenview’s browser.
  2. Right Click - Move To
  3. Try to navigate to some folder
  4. The “Name:” changes to the name of the folder you just entered and images cannot be moved.

Can anyone confirm?

Not sure what you mean.

I’m not editing images. I just open the Gwenview browser and try to move files. It worked as expected in Plasma 5.

I followed your exact steps and works in my machine.

for moving the files those steps work for me on my install of plasma 5.

for deleting, not so much.

Not exactly. Sorry, I made a mistake and wrote “then” instead of “than” in my first step.

Multiple images must be selected for the bug to trigger.

And when the dialog window opens try to navigate to some folder. But don’t just use the “Places” sidebar. Use the folders from the file view for example:

edit:

It was working for me on Plasma 5 as well but on Plasma 6 there’s some problem.

ok, now i can reproduce it, and i’m still convinced it’s because gwenview is actually working with a copy of the file behind the scenes.

if i select more than one image from the thumbnail view and right click on one of them to get the context menu.

the file dialog that opens will let me choose a destination folder, but the files will not move.

I don’t know how it works under the hood, but it looks like a bug now.

It was working before I upgraded to Plasma 6.

Thank you both for testing it!

i’m still on plasma 5

the “bug” is how gwenview handles files, which is why i don’t recommend using it for file management.

Hmm, it was working the way I expected it to work before I upgraded to Plasma 6. So, now I don’t know what to think.

I use it because I got used to it and it’s convenient. I can set big thumbnails in Gwenview so selecting correct image to move is simple.

And the option is there so I assume it’s expected to work.

it works as you expect if you only select one file… so maybe they patched that bit but didn’t make the patch work for multiple selections.

The thing is, it worked in Plasma 5 for both single and multiple files selected. At least for me.

But now in Plasma 6 it only works with single files.

And it somehow doesn’t work for you even on Plasma 5 with multiple files selected.

it’s possible they backported a patch to plasma 5 the carried this behavior back, but this is the first time i’ve tired doing anything like this in qwenview.

i stopped using it when i wouldn’t just delete files and never looked back.

Ok, so photos copied from my phone to DCIM/101… open in browse mode in Gwenview.

Selected pictures of ‘James’ and pressed F8, browse to Desktop and created folder ‘James’ and all the files were moved there.

Not sure what you mean by numbers 3 and 4.

I can confirm that the exact steps you told me (selecting 2 pictures, without use Places in Move option, and enter in one random folder), don’t work.

EDIT: The same process but selecting only 1 picture works. Is with 2 or more pictures that don’t work.

Thank you all for testing.
