Gwenview Version 25.08.1; OS: Kubuntu 25.10.
This bug has been present for a few years (maybe I am misunderstanding something). If people can confirm this on the latest version I will file a bug report. I did a search on the Gwenview bug tracker and didn’t find this bug.
Steps to reproduce every time:
Use a test directory with 3+ test images (you will rename one of them).
Close Gwenview if already open (this resets the bug).
Start Gwenview directly or via Dolphin context menu: navigate to your test directory and use “Browse” mode (i.e., it shows thumbnails for the directory images).
Control + Click 2 or more images to demonstrate that the bottom info panel correctly reports how many files selected (e.g., “Selected 2 of …”).
Must be in “Browse” mode, then:
Rename a file (F2 or right-click), give it a new arbitrary name, press Enter. This has been tested with:
a) Rename after double clicking one image to view it.
b) Rename in the “Browse” mode.
Go back to “Browse” mode if not already.
Click a different image.
Bug is present: only 1 image in the thumbnails has a selection outline, but the bottom info panel reports “Selected 2 of …”. The size (e.g., 100 KiB) report is also mismatched.
Every time you rename an image, this mismatch increases by 1 (e.g., perform 2 renames: clicking 1 image will report “3 of …”.
This bug persists until closing Gwenview:
- If you Control + Click more images (e.g., with 3 selected of 3 it reports “Selected 4 of 3”.)
- Deselecting all by clicking in a dead area, then clicking one image, it reports “2 of …”.
- Navigate to a different directory: bug still present.
Workaround: close and restart Gwenview.
Why this bug matters: if you are deleting images this is confusing to the user re: “Which is correct: the visual outlines selection or the bottom panel count?”
