Handling image MIME types

Recently switched over from Codium. Maybe this was a plugin specific to that IDE, but if I had say a PNG in my project and clicked on it, it would show a preview of the image in the editor. When I do this in Kate though, it just opens the file in unreadable text. I can still view the image by right-clicking and opening in Gwenviewer, but I can’t seem to figure out how to make this the default behavior for image MIME types in Kate. Is there a way?

I have tried this, but the image still opens as text. =(

If I open the Preview tab, Gwenview complains that it can’t display the file because it detects the MIME type as “application/octet-stream”. Notably, the file it tries to display is not the original image, but a file in /tmp.

Oh my bad it actually doesn’t work with pngs, only svgs. No dice on previewing png files inside kate, unless I’m wrong
