I’m using an LG OLED TV as my monitor, and for the most part, it works fantastically. (4K/120 HDR all work via HDMI to DP adapter)
The issue is that when I first log in, my TV doesn’t seem to recognize that HDR is enabled, it’s washed out and clearly not in HDR mode. If I receive a discord notification pop-up, start a game in HDR, or open the properties menu on a game in steam, it seems to kick the TV, which goes black for a second, then comes back with HDR on. From that point onward, it displays in HDR without issue.
Frankly if this was all I had to do, while annoying, I could live with it.
The problem is that if any of those things happen again, (the discord notif, game launch, some websites, etc etc) the HDR reloads again. The screen goes black for a few seconds, then returns, the HDR logo shows up in the top right, but the output doesn’t change at all, because it was already in HDR.
The TV is fully updated, and this wasn’t happening before I got the DP adapter (when I was only running 4k/60), so I’m fairly confident it’s something to do with that, but clearly something about the discord notifications or steam properties menu or whatever seems to have some of that HDR information baked in which prompts the TV to “switch” to HDR.
Is there any way to force that information to persist regardless of what’s on screen? or any other work around to stop it from transmitting at all so I could trigger it once at log in and then not again?
