Help formatting on Discuss

I’m trying to figure out the proper way to post & comment on kde discuss & I’ve searched high & low, but still haven’t found out how to use what I’m sure most here would call basic tools. What I’m having trouble with are the format options. For example, I don’t know what the “Blockquote” option does exactly. Nor do I know what the “Preformatted” text option does. I do know how to use the “Link” option however.

Ultimately, I’d like to know which option will give me the same outcome as this persons comment, putting the text inside a box while allowing others to be able to just click the little “Copy” icon to copy it to their clipboard.

Maybe this is of help:

From the description of your goal you might be looking for the “code block”

Blockquote

in markdown, you can use `> ` in front of any text you want to show as “quoted” text

this is what someone else said.

you will get that automatically inserted if you highlight text from someone’s post and choose “Quote” from the popup menu

it will conveniently include the user name for reference.

Preformatted text

this is evoked in markdown by three backtics (upper left most character on the keyboard) followed by new line , or line feed.

it will insert text block what is all monospace characters for posting code blocks like scripts or log outputs for easy reading

you can also insert monospace format inline by using a single backtic before and after the text

you can see all the markdown and how it renders side by side if you choose the M🔻 view in the upper left corner of the editor.

Thanks for the explanation. I did choose the M view so I could see the preview, but when I use the preformatted text option, it doesn’t seem to show up with the little “copy” icon inside my preview so I wasn’t sure if it would once I posted it or hit “Reply”. I assume it will though after looking at your comment. I’m going to try it and see.
I appreciate your help.

Edit: I see what to do now. It was the block quotes I was looking for. I tried the Preformatted text with the above comment and that’s why it only gave me the monospace font, but now I know the 3 backtics above the text and 3 backtics below the text is what I was looking for.

Thanks again

It was of help. Thank you for this.
