Hey everyone! We’re experimenting with adding a “starred/pinned” clipboard feature to KDE’s Klipper and would love to hear your feedback on the UI. It’s just a 3-question form and takes under a minute.
Here’s the link to the MR: feat: add star item feature for klipper
Your votes will directly influence Klipper’s UI evolves - please help us strike the right balance between power and simplicity!

nice, thanks for asking.
i like the filter + sort toolbar addition as a separate improvement regardless of the starred feature… please do this no matter what.
stars on left look more natural than having the stars next to trashcan just seems like bad juxtaposition.
the loss of screen real estate is what concerns me, so my suggestion is that both the tab area and the stars display on the left should be toggles .
both off
minimalist and least disrupting configuration with access to the starred feature
filter + sort are available for finding starred items and to mark the star it would appear on the hover tool bar, perhaps to the left of the actions tool instead of next to the trash can.
tabs only
here you can quickly switch to viewing only the starred items while still having access to filter + sort and the hover tool bar for marking
stars only
here you would be able to see and mark the starred items directly while still having access to filter + sort, the star would not show in the hover tool bar.
both on
the full show with both stars on the left for marking as well as tabs for easier access while still having access to the filter + sort.

Just a small thing but I think “Pins” would be better than “Stars”.
Stars are naff and associated with online shopping.

Maybe the form should have a section to add ideas, so that you don’t need to track this forum thread.
I agree on the “Pins” name, as they would make more sense with the layout I’d personally choose, that is having the elements pinned to the top to easier access: clipboard elements are not long lasting information, while having them starred like Whatsapp messages, Google Drive files etcetera makes me think they are information kept across sessions; I think it would make more sense to have locked to the top (or under the current element, which I think is the best option) of the long list we have.
I also think that placing the star at the left only removes screen estate depending on the chosen layout:
- If the layout chosen is the tabbed one, the majority of the elements won’t be starred, therefore they would have useless padding to the left; additionally, one could just see starred elements in the other tab.
- Same for the Sort + Filter toolbar only design
- For the section header it’s already like this because starred elements would have their own section, but I add that if they were called “Pins” you could just remove the indicator: pinned elements are in the pinned section, without any need for indicators.
I think the button would be well placed in the action bar that opens on hover, but maybe it should be the first option, so that it’s far from the trashcan.
Agreed plus it’s nice to give us the choice to change the UX to what suits our needs.
