Help with Webcam Setup in KDE Neon

Hello, I need your help getting the webcam on a Dell Latitude 9420 to work. I’m using KDE Neon 6.5.5, and I need a simple, effective, and permanent tutorial that won’t lose the configuration on reboot.

When I run `kamoso` and then `device`, I see a very long list of `ipu6 (v4l2)` devices?

The command `v4l2-ctl --list-devices` shows me a list that goes all the way to `video63`?

In Kamoso, regardless of the selected source (IPU6 [V4L2]), the webcam doesn’t display anything—or shows a white, gray, or green screen? And I’ve read that generally, the first two items on the list should work. What I’d like to do is customize one of the video sources so it recognizes it. I read this Ubuntu documentation, which seems good to me, but I’m not getting any results.

This probably isn’t a factor but if that Plasma version of accurate you have not updated your system in 6 months?

This is going to be a hardware specific issue, as this type is a pita in Linux everywhere. .

Since neon is Ubuntu 24.04, any resources for that will be relevant, and hopefully useful. The Plasma version won’t be a factor here.

These may or may not be completely relevant to your specific laptop and webcam model but the procesess seem like they will be be the same for other models. Which files or packages or sources you need, I can’t say.

Linux 6.xx can’t install an Intel IPU6 camera or a fingerprint reader? How is that even possible in 2026? The tutorials posted online are all ineffective or contradictory—30 command lines and reboots just to get a device to work: 0000:00:05.0 Multimedia controller: Intel Corporation Device 9a19 (rev 01)—and it’s always the same result: it just doesn’t work? I don’t understand why Linux is still at this stage, when Windows and macOS handle this with ease and without any command-line input.

Here are some details about my setup: Dell Latitude 9420, BIOS 1.46, dual-boot with GRUB 2.12, Windows 11 24H2, and KDE Neon (kernel 6.17, Plasma 6.5.5) using all Dell sources from archive.canonical.com (Noble (*)), and PPA sources from launch*.net (OEM Intel)
