How can I open new text files in an already launched Kwrite editor, but in a new tab?

I have two text files on my desktop.

When I double click A.txt it opens in a new Kwrite.
When I double click B.txt it opens in a new Kwrite.

Instead, what I want is for B.txt to open in the existing Kwrite, in a new tab.

I have already looked in [ Kwrite → Settings → Behaviour ] and the checkbox for “Open each document in it’s own window” is disabled.

Help?

I’m using Fedora 43, Plasma 6.5.3

If you open the files in Kate instead of KWrite it should do what you want

Ok, thanks for the tip. I’ll try Kate.

BTW: Kate is not installed by default on Fedora 43 / KDE. If it’s a better choice then it would be nice if it was? Just a thought.

kate is an advanced text editor, geared toward development. It makes perfect sense not to include it by default depending on distro mindset.

I would argue virtually no distro should include it by default TBH, expect for full KDE-app suite target or a Dev-oriented one, since it wouldn’t be of use for 95%+ of users.
And devs are rather powerful users that should know how to find which application they need.
