How do I install KDE Linux on a virtual machine with a Windows host?

Hi. I have heard about KDE Linux for a while and recently I want to try it.

the problem is: The download provided is a .raw file, and most resources for converting it to an iso or a vmdk or the what not are for Linux Host and my computer runs Windows 11. I have another computer that runs Linux but its old and I don’t have it on me nor a USB drive.

Another thing is that I do not have admin perms on my own Windows computer so what can I do other than the only think I can think of which is do it on another Linux VM?

First, welcome to the KDE Discuss forums.

A reliable Virtual Machine for a variety of Operating Systems is the Oracle VirtualBox product – <Oracle VirtualBox>

The list of valid Host and Guest Operating System combinations is here: <Host and Guest Combinations>

Please note the Terms and Conditions on the Download page: <https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads>

The VirtualBox Extension Pack is available for personal and educational use on this page under the PUEL license. The VirtualBox Extension Pack is also available under commercial or enterprise terms. By downloading, you agree to the terms and conditions of the respective license.

An alternative VM Host for Windows 11 is “VMWare Workstation Pro” – I’ve personally never used that product and can therefore cannot say if it’s suitable, or not.
Ditto the Microsoft “Hyper-V” product …

I am no Windows expert but I think you need at least some kernel drivers to run VirtualBox or VMWare on Windows. And these will only be installable using administrative rights.

Though you might be able to do what this guide talks about (use at your own risk): Virtual machine on Windows 11 without admin – DSPACE

I was able to install Virtualbox 2 years ago

I use oracle Virtualbox, but I havent checked the valid hosts and guests atm
