How do I remove a plasmoid in plasma 6.2?

I just upgraded my desktop to Fedora 40. I have plasmoids that I no longer want. How the hell do I remove them? Right clicking gives me the option to “Add or Manage Widgets” but I don’t see how to remove a widget.

The help center says:

Unlock the desktop and you’ll be able to add and remove Plasma widgets from panel or desktop. You add Plasma widgets by simply dragging them where you want them. Right click on an widget to remove it.

Right clicking on a widget in the panel does not give me a remove option. I can’t get a screenshot because the shortcuts I have setup for Spectacle don’t work when the menu is open :frowning:

If you want to remove a widget from the Panel, click on “Show Panel Configuration” or left click on the panel once you are in “Add or Manage WIdgets” mode and then hover the widget.

Nothing happens when I hover over the widget.

Ah I had to be in panel settings, and then hover over the widget. Not intuitive at all :frowning:

Yes, it’s a bit strange - and if you accidentally click then you just end up with another instance on your desktop.

So what you need to find is at the top of the ‘Add Widgets’ panel there - next to the search bar is the filter ‘All Widgets’.

Dropdown that menu and find ‘uninstallable’ - then you can see red x available for widgets you can uninstall.

For now, take a screenshot of that, then open Dolphin and navigate to the folder…

~/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/

The ‘Plasma’ folder here is one of the essential folders to add to your Dolphin bookmarks…

Add some Plasma folders to your indexing so they can be found in krunner:

  1. krunner ‘search’ to find ‘file search’
  2. add the path ~/.local/share/plasma/
  3. Wait until indexing is complete - then close everything.

So now, you can open krunner and type ‘plasma’ or ‘plasmoids’ to find those folders

Sometimes unintuitive - plasma is a behemoth, but it gets more comfortable when you get used to it.

agree! Add, move and delete a widget should be available via “Manage Widgets”

I think I should be able to remove a widget just by right clicking on it. I can do that for a widget on the desktop but not in a panel bar.

I agree - and in this thread there’s also some confusion between ‘delete’ with ‘remove’.

I tried to replace the icons-only task manager with the one that shows the titles.
I now have 2 copies of icons-only and the icons-and-text task manager.
I made the mistake of looking at the running widgets and clicked on the icons-only that added one more.

Your suggestion on looking in the list of Uninstallable widgets shows me an empty list. Is the task manager protected or special?

They are part of plasma and can’t be deleted, sure… and I’m confused because when I look for alternatives, I can just switch them and don’t end up with duplicates:

You can only remove widgets which you have added yourself.

That is the difference between remove and delete, understood.

What I want to do is remove the extra widgets from the Panel Config.
How do I do that from the GUI?
As noted right-click only allows you to access the config of the widget.
