How to add options for desktop and panel context menus?

Hi, a quick one.

I would like to open spectacle when right clicking the desktop and selecting an option.

Or a random other action.

Where can users edit the options that appear in the respective context menus?

  • desktop containment (“the desktop”)
  • panel (blank area)

Plasma6, Fedora 40

Right-clicking on any desktop selection to open Spectacle (or other options) à la Linux Mint Cinnamon would sure be handy!

on the plasma desktop, you can add service menus when you right click on a file/folder on the desktop.

but the context menu that comes up when you just right click on the desktop itself is fixed and cannot be altered.

i don’t know if the cinnamon desktop has something similar.

At best you could add it to the app starter.

“desktop itself is fixed” - good to know.

So many options to discover in KDE, ya never know what novel thing is waiting to be discovered.

Suppose a Spectacle icon could be added to the panel too.

yes, in fact there is a special widget just for launching applications called “quick launch” that you can just drag applications to for easy access outside the app menu, favorites or task manager.

you can have this widget on the desktop or you can add it to a panel
