How to Disable Green Change Indicators in Kate After Saving?

Hi everyone,

I’ve started using Kate as my text editor, and one thing that’s been bothering me is the green indicators that show up after I save changes to a file. While I understand they can be helpful for tracking changes, I find them distracting and would prefer to disable this feature.

Does anyone know how to turn off these green change indicators in Kate? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I found that there is a Highlight changed and unsaved lines.

I think it would be much nicer if both of these options are separated as I only want to see unsaved lines.

I use KWrite in Plasma, I may be wrong, but think KWrite and Kate are essentially the same apps but not sure how close they are. In KWrite it’s this setting perhaps it’s the same in Kate?

Edit: sorry, your last post wasn’t showing, looks like you found the setting.

Thanks for replying. @anonnetuser
This option fixes the inconvenience but creates another inconvenience that now we cannot infer the status of changes.
What I am looking is an option by which I can see unsaved changes but saved changes stay normal as everything else.

Agreed. But I don’t think there a more granular option :frowning:

this would make a good feature request

i too would like separate check boxes for each (saved and unsaved).

but in the meantime you can add the reload all button to the tool bar or make a shortcut for it and that will clear the green highlights.

reload all could be a good alternative for the time being (I am new to kate).

Can you please tell me how i can raise a feature request or refer me to related docs for raising it.

create an account on https://bugs.kde.org

on the home page select file a bug report under applications, kate

when you get the severity dropdown, choose wishlist

and explain your request in the text window following the template guidelines.

when you are done, post the bug report link here so others can add their comments to it

there is already this one 489692 – [WISH] Show changes in git in gutter but may not be exactly the same thing.

Hi! I don’t think this totally solves the separation of that setting, but one thing that might help is the fact that Modified and Saved lines have configurable colors through the Color Themes > Theme Editor part of the Configure Kate window:

So functionally, if your saved lines color is roughly the same as the color of that section of the window (and there’s an eyedropper tool in the color picker to make that easier), then it’s a lot less distracting if you’re not looking for that to be indicated

Clever life hack! Nice  I didn’t realize these colors are configurable. Thanks! Again

One of the advantages of having poor color vision, I suppose, is that I’ve historically noodled around with custom colors for legibility in programs that I use often…and sometimes that leads to accidentally finding something useful
