It seems the disable thumbnails option works for both files and folders. I only want to disable it for folders. Isn’t that possible?

Yup, but also you missed a trick here - for flexibility in browsing you can just use F12 to toggle it.
However, if it’s a space issue - then I think details or compact view is better, and then there’s also ‘Show in Groups’ which is awesome at times - and I’ve bound that to F11.
my preview shortcut was unmapped but when setting it to F12 is does indeed turn the previews on/off.
however it does so for ALL previews, not just folders… and for some reason it changed the size of the icons as well, which is jarring.
