How to download Kdenlive in .deb and .rpm format from official website Latest version I hate Flatpak flathub and snap This packaging is a failure and does not allow you to download it with all its dependencies in offline mode

What you want is an appimage format to download, they are lovely little things that usually just work without the vendor lockin garbage the snap and flatpak formats bring to the table.

I use the AppImage format of Kdenlive and have no issue with it. The version I have is 24.12.0. I suppose launching the app depends on one’s CPU but I can have Kdenlive up and running instantly (one to two seconds).

Hi, i come here with the same request, but my reasoning is different: i’d like to have Kdenlive take less space on my hard-drive, thus using Flatpak or Snap or AppImage isn’t ideal.
Is there a way to have Kdenlive through official .deb or .rpm packages, or is it not possible ?

If you’re planning to edit video, and you’re worried about the space that a ~200MB AppImage is going to consume, then … uh, … you should probably be worried … Really really worried.

If those worries aren’t actually misplaced, your space problems are going to be much much worse than you so far imagined!

But otherwise … I wouldn’t be sweating over your tools using less space than your first few seconds of footage are going to consume. Especially not once you realise the real benefits that using the AppImage for this will have for you long term.

As others have stated, an appimage might be the go. I have an Applications folder I have made & filled with appimages on my system. (/home/user/Applications).

Appimages are still ifify for me when it comes to integrating them in the system, though. Making the appimage executable is easy enough, but I would like to know what people are using to integrate them, and if they are using something foolproof. I have tried various, and I haven’t found one that is 100% reliable, all of the time.

To me, integrating appimages into the linux system is still a weak spot. Of course, it’s not entirely necessary if you don’t want to do it, but it makes some things a lot easier. Sorry for my sidenote little rant.

What sort of ‘integration’ are you having trouble with? You can run them from the command line just like any other system executable, or add a DE ‘launcher’ to do that just like any other tool, and they are otherwise mostly indistinguishable from any other executable in what they can do and work with.

I mostly use an integration app like appimaged on github. I like to see an app (latest version of kdenlive, in this case) appearing in my menu this way. I then make a link to it on my panel easily from its menu entry. That’s it.

I don’t like appimaged for various reasons (error message that tells me it’s not running on one of the supported live systems) but it still running in the background…usually. After launching appimaged manually like this, I then run kdenlive so appimaged can ‘integrate’ it. It probably integrates the app properly more than 50% of the time, but often enough I have to try again until it does.

I also tried appimagelauncher in the past and that went tits-up on me for some reason. I see just now that it has a new beta out. I might try it to see if things have improved. Long story short, I haven’t yet found a 100% reliable app to integrate appimages into the sytem.

I know we’ve seen reports here before of that one being the root cause of Mysterious Failures that went away after it was uninstalled.

I don’t know what DE you’re using, but most of them have a fairly simple mechanism to add new launcher icons or menu items by clicking around in their options - and/or will read them from .desktop files you drop into some standard location, so if that’s all you need then a very small shell script to create them or a quick copy & paste in a text editor should give you a lot more control with a lot less overhead and unnecessary Cleverness, and most importantly work exactly how you want it to on your system.
