How to serve remote desktop on wayland?

I’m been researching for remote desktop on linux for a while. Finally few weeks ago I can setup xrpd server, but it only work in plasma-x11 session on my arch.
Now it works flameless in my network even with vpn across internet.
But kde dev team said x11 will drop from developement. So i guess there is other options for acces to my desktops across my vpn just like now with any windows android or linux with freerdp client.

Wayland should mature in 10-15 years, then you’ll be fine /s…

Which version of Plasma do you have? I’ve just installed Fedora 43 with Plasma 6.5.4 on an old all Intel laptop (no NVIDIA) and RDP no longer even works with X11. The Remote Desktop option is missing from the settings app under X11. Under Wayland, RDP is there, it’s enabled, allowed in the firewall and it responds when I try to connect to it from a Windows client, but I only get a black screen with a cursor for few seconds and it disconnects.

I searched the web for half an hour and this seems to be the extent to which RDP “works” under Plasma and Wayland and nobody has a solution.

Yeah, there are third party solutions for remote desktop but I’m not sure I want to even bother trying.

It’s in the works! And no, it won’t take 15 years…

And, contrary to what some people believe, this doesn’t have anything to do with how mature Wayland is. It’s just that there are good reasons a compositor doesn’t also order pizza and clean your apartment for you:

The “problem” really is that xrdp only supports X11 sessions. Just like Wayland, X11 also doesn’t spawn a RDP server, xrdp does. Xrdp is a display manager and so it’s fair to compare it to Plasma Login Manager, but not Wayland.

The problem with the black screen when connecting with KRdp has been raised at I get a black screen when I connect to my remote desktop, and in one of the comments, the issue No image with Remmina is mentioned. I was fighting the same problem (as can be seen in the bug) without success. What’s interesting is that for some people it works, and in my case, connecting from Windows 11 also worked (but not from KDE).

Meanwhile, I’m using RustDesk for remote connection (with autologin enabled with SDDM).
