How to troubleshoot issues with windows

Since the KDE 6.6 plasma update, I’ve been having some issues with some windows. The most severe have gone away through downgrading and upgrading again some days later, but some are still there like mouse pointer latency going through the roof on some windows or complete freezes when I shift to another window. I’d like to know if there’s a way to check what’s happening so that these issues can be reported accurately. All these problems are related to Steam games, so I’d like to make sure this is a KDE issue and not something that comes from the Steam side of it.

do you have any old window rules that may not carry over properly?

have you tried to recreate the issue with a new user acct?

nothing like that, no. I have no custom settings like that.

I’ve been thinking about testing the whole thing on an independent installation, but I was hoping for something beyond user-level.

are your steam games installed onto a linux partition (ext4)?

are you running X11 or wayland?

what is the output of kinfo

Games are installed on a btrfs partition (/home partition in the same drive especifically, if relevant).
