Ubuntu 24.04 based stuff will work - that has the minimum kernel and other bits for good support. I am using it right now on my HP 14 Tiger lake Chromebook.
For audio and other things, you do need to run some scripts, so try following both MrChromebox’s stuff AND the Chrultrabook docks, AFTER verifying support, etc
For the audio script to work, you do need to comment out the lines (337 and 338) that stops the script when it detects an Ubuntu based OS, but it will work after that. At least for some devices.
You are not wrong, but they do seem to have an anti-Ubuntu stance, or at least WeirdTreeThing does, at least from my experiences. I mean, they offer a precompiled kernel etc for supporting Debian now, which isn’t even needed for Ubuntu 24.04+. But, since 24.04 doesn’t have the deficiencies that the previous LTS had, maybe that will change for the time being? lol, no.
