I just did my roommates updates and I noticed that in two Dolphin windows that the first part and the last part of item name is shown with periods between them instead of the first part of the item being shown. See image below for reference. Left and right window is unpreferred and the middle is preferred. How do I go about returning the names back to what you see in the middle Dolphin window?
Hi - as a general note, it’s a good idea to fully restart any software that’s been updated, so that the same current version is being used by everything that’s running - or will be run later
The topic of how Dolphin displays truncated filenames has generated several discussions and bug reports over the years (examples here and here) - the current approach is to elide filenames in the middle, rather than truncate at the end.
Looking at that screenshot, it seems like you’re using Dolphin windows as sort of application launchers - is that the general idea?
Just asking as there might be tools that are more easily fit for that purpose than a file manager, if you’re running into edge cases that make it tricky?
I’m not changing that for the reason I keep 4 tabs open Shortcuts, Torrents, Movies To Watch, Last Nights. I’ve looked at the alternatives and didn’t like any of them for my use. I personally believe that changing to this style was a very poor decision. While it is a matter of aesthetics more importantly it’s about knowing what something is at a glance. Then you have date and permissions in Dolphin one gets to choose how they are displayed.
