Idle / Lock High CPU Fix or Work-around

Ever since doing a long-delayed update of my KDE Neon install a couple of weeks ago, my CPU and fans go crazy every time my PC times out and locks the screen. I assume I have this bug:

That bug is about a year old. I read the comments. But, I’m not sure I understand if there is a reasonable work-around. I only saw comments about restarting X11. But, I don’t know how to configure that to happen every time the PC goes to idle. Can anyone explain this or whatever other work-around may exist? I’ve had to just configure my laptop to never idle out / lock, which really sucks.

i’ve had issues with sleep on plasma 6.1, so i’ve since set power management option for suspend to “do nothing”

and then added my own script that runs after 30 min of inactivity to execute systemctl suspend-then-hibernate

there are a few more changes you need to make, detailed here

From what I understand reading 484323 and in practice, doing a killall on kwin_x11 will take care of the issue for an entire session. i.e. It doesn’t have to be done on every idle. Would be nice if this bug were fixed however. Seems like it’s just a one-off and might not require too much sloc for someone working with it. But, I don’t know, the code is really complex and of course the bug hasn’t been addressed for a year.
