i suspect that is more an issue with the country of origin vs donorbox than anything to do with KDE
they do offer other ways to donate
No, I know. I’m guessing it’s a payment processor thing.
I got a pop up on my my desktop, laptop, and my netbook asking me to consider donating. Since I’ve settled on KDE as my DE of choice on all my devices and have been extremely happy with it, I thought “why not?" and clicked on the button. The point is that it’s KDE’s job to remove the friction from donating if they want to fundraise. Mind you, other payment processors work fine (not my area of expertise but stripe has worked reliably for me) - I’ve donated to Wikipedia, and I’ve paid companies based in both the EU and US before for various services (hosting, VPNs etc.) and it has generally not been a problem.
This friction means that I have to make the time to figure out how to donate, or more likely, just forget about the whole thing when I’m not annoyed (enough to make this post) instead of it being a simple impulse donation. The payment processor thing isn’t my problem. I’m not going to go out of my way to find a way to mail a check and I don’t understand crypto. I have cards and I want to pay. Just make it easy for me to pay, dammit.
Hi, thank you for trying to donate.
Apparently this is a limitation of Donorbox.
From what I heard, it looks like there is some discussion going on how to solve this.
I write an old school check and mail it to the Reston, VA address (there’s a KDE office there).
Of course I’m next door in Maryland. That’s not as appealing to do from across an ocean or something.
