Image view with neutral borders (image not fully filling viewing space)

Is there a way in Digikam to view images in such a way that they don’t fill the available viewer space fully, i.e. that a grey (or white or wathever) border is left all around the image?

The use case is the following: when going through a batch of new images, I often find myself zooming out a bit so that the grey background of the viewer is visible all around the image. I find that it is much easier to check the composition and to some degree also the exposure in this way. But doing this by zooming out is somewhat tricky when the images don’t have an identical pixel count (e.g. when horizontal and vertical pictures are present, or if some were cropped, or if they come from different cameras with a different number of pixels), as the “zoomed out view” appears to be defined in absolute dimensions and not as a proportion of the “fit to window” view (which makes perfect sense).

So I was wondering if there is a way to redefine “fit to window” to not actually fit to the window, but to e.g. 80% of the window. Note that my point here is not having a smaller image, but havign a neutral border around it as opposed to having the image directly touch toolbars/thumbnails/screen edges/etc. The basic idea is acutally similar to the “color assesment mode” available in Dartktable.
I looked through all settings but could not find anything… I also searched Google and this forum but could not find anyone else asking about this, maybe I’m the only one who thinks this might be useful

Thank you in advance for any answer!
