In system settings, when lang is set to German clicking on energy management crashes system settings

Hey, all,

I’ve encountered a bug in system settings. And after a ‘The Twelve Tasks of Asterix’-esque journey have arrived here to bring it to someones attention before I erroneously file a bug.

What happened:

In the system settings GUI I set my system to German and set some energy options (this was a few months ago and it worked).

I then found that for whatever reason some energy options were overridden.

I opened system settings, went to energy management and system settings crashed.

Following a irrational hunch I set the system to English and could again access energy management.

I went back and forth a few times to confirm this behavior. System settings crashes reliably when clicking on energy management while sys lang is German.

Also, after each lang change reboot would fail with a black screen and mouse cursor. But I think a bug has been filed for that already…?

Best regards,

dt

When there is a crash, you should be getting a notification about this. Please follow the instructions there to submit a bug report so we can look into it.

Then maybe it’s not a crash after all.

What happens is that the energy options are blank when clicked.
After a (short) while the fan starts to spin. Hard.

Trying to close settings leads to unresponsive settings. Fan still spinning like crazy. Killing settings helps.

That sounds more like a freeze. In any event this is clearly a bug though, so could you please report it at https://bugs.kde.org/ with all the relevant info? This will make it easier to track it.

Pardon my imprecise language.

Will do.

Filed as bug 494390.

i can confirm that this bug is still active and unresolved. this bug drove me nuts for days now. i can’t believe that a different language-setting than english resolves in a crashing systemsetting-app. i tried so many things the last days (powerdevil, ddcutil, dbus/dbus-broker… and so forth) but it is a “wrong” language-setting. what a pitty, i hope the devs will solve this bug more than soon.

this affects plasma 6.2.3 and above and all kernel 6.1x versions. this happens on a intel-nvidia-prime-computer my other one with amd-gpu isn’t affected but how on earth should this be related to “wrong” language-settings ??? something in the plasma-packaging seems to have a crazy-bug.
