Hello, I try to install the user edition of KDE neon 20241105. I get this “Bad main script file” error during installation stage at about 89%. Detail is : main script file /usr/share/calamares/modules/neon-fs-cleanup/main.py for python job neon-fs-cleanup raised an exception.
Is there any suggestion for this error.
I had the same problem and I’m sure just like me you have more than one disk drive.
The problem is about INSTALLING BOOT LOADER ON A NON GPT PARTITION DRIVE.
You have to change the installing boot loader drive OR change non GPT partition to GPT drive which will cause LOSING YOUR DATA.
I didn’t do the second solution because I had a windows 10 partition on that drive. Only problem for me is if I want to use my Windows 10, I have to manually remove the GPT drive so my system can load windows 10.
These are my solutions to my problem
Thanks, Mehrdad30. I tried to unplug my secondary HDD for data storage and only leave only the SSD connected to the main board. But I still experience the same failure at installation. However, after closing the installation window and reboot, I can log into KDE neon successfully. So Maybe this is not a big issue.
However, I installed Kubuntu 24.10 later without any glitches. Hope this issue can be solved in the future.
You’re welcome. Again I experienced what you experiencing. Installation process failed but yet I had my KDE NEON on my pc but I wasn’t satisfied . So I did install it for three times till I get a clean successful installation. You don’t make your drive a GPT drive yet and that’s the reason your installation fails. Make your drive a GPT drive and give it an 8MB bios-efi unformatted partion.
I reinstalled the system using 20241117 and encountered the same problem - at the very end of the installation the message “Installation failed” and an error in the python cleanup script. But at the same time, KDE Neon works and everything seems to be fine (I hope). The disk on which the installation was performed has a GPT table. There was no such error on earlier versions of the image. Any ideas: Could the python cleanup error affect something in the future and is it possible to run this script after installation?
