Integration with CEC for digital signage

It would be really helpful if KDE had integration with libcec so I could do things like turn on/off TVs over HDMI, change the inputs, and so forth.

Right now I’m using some kwin scripts I found in the forums, but direct integration via the display config widget would be awesome.

I think it’s probably more an issue of there being so limited hardware to do this as no major video card vendor supports CEC still directly on the output ports with HDMI, and something like the pulse-8 cec adapter isn’t commonly seen/used. I’ve only really seen it offered “built-in” on the cheap Chinese arm boxes they’re flooding as set-top or “kodi” boxes, and like anything from there assume it to be fairly jank support at that if it supports libcec generically at all.

Another problem is most things have limited hdmi out, usually more DP, requiring DP to HDMI adapter, which I think would probably quash CEC as well, or back to the pulse-8 dongles.

I looked into the pulse8’s for my 3x 50" tv’s connected via hdmi I use for displays to turn them on and off to replace for lack of DPMS over vga/dvi/dp for “monitors” when to wake (power on) or sleep (power off) the displays, but the cost and lack of software to manage them kept me from doing so. If your ask existed, I might go back and buy 3 still, but mostly for power management on/off.

I agree it would be neat if display and power management settings for KDE were CEC aware, but it’s such a niche case still (thanks for that intel/nvidia/amd), I doubt it’d be picked up as a mainstream feature.

I’ve got the pulse-8 adapter in place on my systems.

I’ll confess this would be enough of a quality of life improvement for me I’d be willing to provide some funding to make it happen…
