Is Baloo solely used for indexing extended attributes?

As an exercise, i wanted to see what effect disabling Baloo would have on my searching abilities on my OS. In effect, i did the following:

balooctl disable
balooctl purge

Yet, i was still able to search for files with Dolphin. The only thing it seemed to affect were tags. This wiki page also alludes to the fact that it might be limited to just that.

Could this be confirmed?

it’s what i use to search file contents and metadata.

simple file name search can be done by just using the find function, tho i do think baloo speeds this up if you have a lot of folders to search thru.
