My dad has several reasons to switch to Plasma, but one big reason he always switches back to Windows:
We haven’t found a non-confusing, reliable way to sync his Google Drive to Plasma.
The problem with the KIO integration is that it doesn’t show thumbnails and has a “copying” notification and delay when opening any files - using it is a bit overwhelming for him. As you probably can guess, he isn’t very good at computers, so it would be preferable to keep Google Drive instead of moving everything to Nextcloud for now. And we’re trying to find a well-integrated app that does this while offering a smooth experience. He tried Celeste but it has a few errors and doesn’t seem to run in the background once it’s closed.
Unfortunately, this is a very troublesome situation. It’s disappointing that the Google Drive issue hasn’t been resolved within this time frame. As a temporary solution, you can use Rclone. However, unfortunately, a slow connection is involved.
I ended up self-hosting Nextcloud which has been working well so far. It has a Linux sync client which is pretty easy to set up.
On a sidenote: Over my years of linux usage this Drive issue is a reoccuring thing. Api’s, integration…you name it, always something. I’ve heard the Drive mantra on countless forums since the wooly mammoth roamed the earth.
Personally, I simply created an ssb for Drive. Couldn’t be easier and ALWAYS works. Drag 'n drop…done. This becomes very much obvious when in a tiling mode.
I had to revert to KDE version 5.24. I guess when it comes to KDE, you need to go back to an older version for stability…
