KDE Connect doesn't connect to my phone even after troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
On one Wi-Fi network in particular, I can’t connect my phone to my laptop via KDE Connect. On a regular home router, it works as expected ; but on the Wi-Fi shared network (not secured, public but with a captive portal) of my residence, neither device appears on the other, even after doing all the troubleshooting on the wiki :

  • Netstat seems to detect my phone on port 1716
  • Netcat gives the same error on all ports “No route to host”
  • Resetting the app didn’t fix the issue
  • All ports were already opened on my Linux Mint firewall
  • The KDE Connect app on my smartphone is excluded from Rethink DNS

If the Wi-Fi network itself isn’t the cause of the issue, what is ? Thanks in advance for your replies.

It won’t work, a router/AP (specially these captive portal ones) is set up in a way that forbids communication between individual devices, usually for security purposes.

You might try running it over a VPN and see if that works.
