KDE Connect problems connecting

Hello! Love KDE Connect but I’ve run into a problem.

So I’m using KDE Connect on my Pixel 6a running GrapheneOS and on my laptop running Arch Linux. Here’s what happens. Sometimes on my phone it says its connected but on my laptop it says its not (and vice versa). Other times, its connected but nothing works (has all permissions set to allowed). If I open KDE SMS, it just shows a blank screen. Or if I try remote input from my phone, it doesn’t do anything. If I revoke all permissions for the app, disable it, re enable it, and give all the permissions back, it works for like five minutes. Then the above happens all over again. :frowning: Is it always this glitchy? Or is something wrong? Thank you for your help and love the project!

I’m not the one that can tell you what to do in order to fix the problem, but I can tell you that something is wrong. The only problem I have with Kde Connect is I can only send files from my phone to my pc, but not vice versa. I just started having this problem when I went from using Kubuntu 2404 to 2504. Other than that, it’s worked flawlessly for me. Good luck with it though.

Thanks. I managed to get it to work a little yesterday. I’ve just been fiddling with it lately. To fix it, I’ve just been resetting the app on both ends and that seems to fix it for a bit

Do you only use the wifi connection or also the Bluetooth? I found out that using BT as well gives me a much better connection. Maybe it is the firewall who interferes with it, maybe the fact I am using a VPN on both the laptop and the phone with most likely different servers so maybe a different network. Just an idea.

I use the WiFi and Bluetooth. I also find it works better that way

It’s very solid for me without BT, using wifi on the phone and wired on the PC. At least on Fedora, the firewall definitely needs to be opened for it.

I don’t use VPN but can see how that would add complexity.

I use a VPN on my laptop and phone, so maybe that interferes? I never considered that. I’m at work right now but later I could try running it without the VPN

Still doesn’t work when the VPN is disconnected

One thing I know for sure is that the firewall will stop it from working and so will a vpn. Also, make sure the phone and cpu are connected on the same network and what I mean by that is make sure you don’t have one connected to your main network and the other connected to the guess network for something. I’ve used it pretty flawlessly without BT, but if any one of the above things aren’t correct, it will not work.

The firewall is set to Allow KDE Connect (that was the first thing I did after installing the app  ). The phone and computer are both on the same network. VPNs are disconnected. I’m going to continue testing it after work today

Why on Earth would a VPN cause a KDE connection problem between 2 devices on an internal WiFi? I was under the presumption that the VPN only really came into play once my computer left my local WiFi?! Can anyone explain this to me?

((Side note:- disabling the VPN on my phone fixed the problem)).
