When I select a file, the current path changes to the file’s parent folder (i.e. the accordion containing the file).
I’m not sure this is the expected behavior, since it effectively changes the current location when selecting a file. Is this intentional, or could it be considered a bug? If it’s intentional, is there a way to change this behavior? It’s a bit disorienting especially when you’re trying to double-click a file to select it.

I also have this bug? It has to be a bug, because I have expand folders turned on, so that I wouldn’t have to fully enter a folder to see the files.
Anyway, I didn’t notice this until now, so it might be due to recent updates? I’m on Arch. @reisub are you on a rolling release as well or a distro with very recent Dolphin/KDE updates?
I’m on plasma 6.7.4 / frameworks 6.29.0 and I can’t exactly reproduce the effect. I did, however, get really confused how the file picker dialog seems to have more and inconsistent view modes now?
In the top toolbar, I got what I would expect to be Icon View, Compact View, Detail View, the ones we also got in dolphin. The Detail-View Icon is also the same as in dolphin and shows a tree view, but selecting this view mode is actually just detail columns without expandable folders.
Then, having a look inside the context menu, I see 4 options:
“Short View”, which seems to refer to compact view
“Detailed View”, which seems to be connected to the detail view icon in the toolbar, but has a different (more fitting) icon here
“Tree View”, which is compact view with expandable folders, never seen that one before
“Detailed Tree View”, which is what we usually consider to be “Detail View”, columns and expandable folders
Icon view is for some reason completely missing from the context menu
So, I’m not sure if this has always been that way or if it is related at all, but it all seems quite strange
I see. Earlier today I tried to replicate OP’s bug on my work pc (which is on an older plasma version and x11) and it was just naturally in the “details tree view”, and when I wanted to try it on this other machine I was confused how the toolbar button didn’t let me expand folders at all and I thought I was on to something.
But once it’s setup correctly everything works as expected
