I am running virt-manager on my KDE Neon system and I am trying to create a virtual machine with the iso image of KDE Linux. I followed the instructions:
-
download an iso file
-
create a new QEMU/KVM virtual machine with virt-manager and load the iso file
-
at the end of the configuration set “UEFI” instead of “BIOS”
As soon as I start the installation, an error message shows up:
There is no way to start the installation.
To test if this is a general issue of my installation or not, I have downloaded an iso file of Linux Mint. All worked correctly, and now I have a perfectly functioning virtual machine of Linux Mint. So, I have the problem only with the iso file of KDE Linux.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
Can you get into the boot menu, and then go to “Boot Manager” to select a boot device?
The KDE Linux ISO shows up for me as “UEFI QEMU DVD-ROM QM00001”.
However I’ve never had this problem - KDE Linux VMs “just work” work for me, whether the host is Fedora or KDE Linux itself.
Which specific ISO did you download? I can try to replicate with the same one.

Yes, pressing any key I get this panel:
If I enter the “Boot Manager” item, I get this list of options:
Forcing to boot from the DVD-ROM, this message shows up:
It says that the access is denied for the DVD-ROM device, and I don’t understand why.

Suspecting that the iso file was corrupted, I have already tried different iso files, but the issue is the same. Anyway, I have used this iso “kde-linux_202610040740.iso” downloaded from here: KDE - Experience Freedom!
Is Secure Boot enabled? (See Device Manager >> Secure Boot Configuration in the boot screen.)
If so then try disabling it.
The Secure Boot was enabled, and this was the problem indeed!
Thank you very much for your kind support and suggestions.
