Kde-linux on Surface Pro 4

Hi!

I was excited when I read about KDE creating its own flavor of Linux. I’ve been a fan of KDE for more than 20 years.

That said, I loaded it onto a Surface Pro 4. It looks great, but the touchscreen doesn’t work. A little Googling and I found out that I need a special kernel, that KDE α was immutable and therefore I couldn’t (within my Linux experience anyway) fix that issue.

I did search the forum for this specific question first before posting. I found the solution for a Surface Pro 7, but not the 4.

So, is there any way to load the special kernel? Does anyone know of any other solutions?

Thanks in advance!

Paul

Kernel switching isn’t a priority concern for KDE-Linux, I would think, since that’s a uncommon need.

And for immutable distro that’s a pickle, you might have to build your own image.

KDE-Linux might not be for everyone or every hardware out-there at least in Alpha stage.

I run KDE Neon on a Surface Pro 6 just fine, touch screen as well. You need the Surface Pro kernel for touch screen. Your model is fully supported with Surface kernel. Search “Surface Pro Linux” in google and you will find all the info. Not sure why they don’t allow links on this forum otherwise I would include them.
