KDE Linux on VMware: incorrect shutdown behavior

Setup: a Windows 11 PC, VMware Workstation 25.0.0 (or 17.6.2), KDE Linux (any revision) on a virtual machine with default settings.

Clicking “Shut down” in the KDE main menu shuts down the system properly, closing all processes and then switching off the virtual machine.

However, clicking “Shut down guest” in VMware turns off the virtual machine IMMEDIATELY, like pulling off the power cord on a real PC. Why? The same exact action is processed properly in Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Elementary OS (possibly Manjaro as well), FreeBSD, Windows 98, Windows XP on the same VMware setup.

Can this behavior be fixed and does it occur on real hardware?

Solved (unexpectedly). Correct shutdown depends on open-vm-tools.

Open-vm-tools on KDE Linux, is this possible?

I’ve found it! Not manually, but using sysd-manager, it is vmtoolsd (/usr/lib/systemd/system/vmtoolsd.service). After enabling it, at least “Autofit guest” started working. I also enabled vmware-vmblock-fuse, but I’m not sure if it is related. [image] PS. Even more, now KDE Linux correctly reacts to “Shut down guest” in VMware Workstation.
