This is my first time on the discuss forms so I hope I’m doing this right,
I tried to use sudo apt to get latest updates on my Main gaming PC running KDE Neon by the time of posting and keep getting a gateway 502 error and the message:
“E: The repository ‘http://archive.neon.kde.org/user noble Release’ no longer has a Release file.
W: Updating from such a repository can’t be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
W: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
E: http://archive.neon.kde.org/user noble Release is not (yet) available (502 Bad Gateway [IP: 89.222.120.5 80])”.
Is there any way to fix this issue carefully, or is the repository temporarily down for maintenance?
I don’t mean to waste anybody’s (including the great people in the KDE projects) time, if I do have to do any repo source list-file fixes I would greatly appreciate the help!
Thank You KDE Community!
Here are my screenshots attached to attempt at helping diagnose the problem, apologies in-advance for redundant info in the screenshots:
+1 @TomoT Exactly the same issue I am running into on my Work production setup after yesterday’s update.
Not sure why the Upstream (http://archive.neon.kde.org/user) is failing.
The repo server is having issues - 502 Bad gateway error. I imagine it will be back up soon, or a soon as someone with access to KDE’s servers can resolve it.
Debian’s apt error message is scary, but really it is more informational, after the problem has been listed.
Non-KDE/neon packages and updates can still be installed.
Yeah not on the team at all either. Just previous experience. I’ve seen this happen before. Server issues happen from time to time and given that KDE is a volitery orginaization with limited resources its good to be patient.
This issue has been happening a lot lately! At first, I didn’t pay much attention to it (I know these kinds of server issues can happen), but it’s now reached a point where it can no longer be ignored.
Is KDE Neon dying? What’s the problem? Is there an official statement on this?
I am not seeing issues here with KDE’s servers, but the ddos on Ubuntu’s infra is affecting PPAs for me tonight. It has been affecting the availability of the normal repos here and there as well, but those have a large set of independent international mirrors. PPAs do not.
It appears that kicking off builds is causing something in the chain to break, but they don’t know what it is, yet.
Canonical is under attack from hackers, Copy Fail got found and a great many systems are unpatched…it almost feels coordinated. I don’t want to be alarmist, but at this point it’s getting hard to ignore- I can’t update, had to remove all launchpadcontent ppa’s… can’t even install new software. Doesn’t feel good.
Why such panic? Yes, the ppa-s were offline, but there was no need to remove them. Now they are back and working as usual… The same can be said about kde neon and ubuntu repositories.
