Hello! I’ve recently been trying to add my own system sounds to my environment, mainly for critical battery, device inserted, login, and trash emptied. My most recent attempt was to copy the ‘ocean’ folder from ‘/usr/share/sounds’, paste it in ‘/home/[my user folder]/.local/share/sounds’, and replace the sounds in the copy with my own.
When I did this, a new option appeared in settings under system sounds, but upon applying the theme and triggering a modified sound, no sound played at all. (previewing the theme in settings just played the normal ocean sounds)
Is there something I missed in what I did, or do I need to do something entirely different?
(Lmk if more info is needed, this is my first post.)
Hi - it looks like you might be running into similar issues to what folks were seeing in this bug report: 482045 – Custom notification sounds do not work
If so, there were some workaround steps mentioned in comment #10 that might help in the meantime?
I sorted mine out by copying an entire folder /usr/share/sounds to ~/.local/share/sounds
- Then not only renaming the folder to the new modified theme name, but by also editing the index file within with the name.
After that, I just used Soundconverter to convert sounds to opus and drop the new copy in that folder, then renamed original sounds originally adding an ‘o’ to their name, then renaming the new file to replace them.
