KDE Plasma unresponsive, need help figuring out what's happening

Hello, after upgrading my system today, Plasma is incredibly unstable. From the point I login, the taskbar and desktop icons take a long time to respond (minutes), and eventually Plasma seems to crash, leaving the desktop and taskbar completely black, although Firefox and Konsole continue to work if I’ve already open them at that point.

I’ve searched around the internet for a way to debug and figure out what’s happening, but I’m still unsure on what to do.

Right now, “journalctl -b 1 -p err” shows 2 errors, one relating to usb 3-3, and another relating too “watchdog0 did not stop”. I don’t think any of these are related to Plasma misbehaving.

How can I figure how what’s breaking my system?

Sorry in advance if the information I gave is insufficient, I’m very new to this, but very willing to learn!

Because I’m not sure what kind of information is helpful for debugging here, here’s some information:

-I’m running Arch

-I’m using SDDM, doesn’t seem to be causing any issues (journalctl -p err | grep sddm doesn’t return anything)

-I have 4 widgets in my desktop, 3 showing CPU, GPU and Network activity, and a digital clock widget. All seem to freeze a bit after login. All of them are from the pre-existing widgets list.

EDIT: I have an AMD graphics card, a 7800XT

I’m really not sure what other information would be useful, please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you help me figure out what’s happening.

Thank you for your time!

Just got some interesting information. When I boot with only 1 monitor, everything seems to work as normal. When I plug in another monitor, the problems immediately start.

I strongly suspect now this is due to the widgets or task bar I added on my second monitor. I only have the widgets in my second monitor, so if they are the source of the problem, it would make sense it doesn’t happen when booting with only one.
Also, I think the problems either started or got much worse when I added a taskbar to my second monitor.

How can I dig deeper into which of these widgets or taskbar on my second screen are causing the problem, and how to fix them?

Thank you!

Adding more info (sorry if what I’m doing constitutes as spam):
I booted into one screen, created a new Activity in order to have no widgets and extra task bars on my desktops. After changing to this activity and plugging in my second monitor, as expected everything is working well.

Looks like the source of the problems are definitely either the bugs, or the taskbar I added.

What should my next steps be in order to fix the problems with those? I’m guessing I could delete the config file for those widgets, but if possible I’d rather fix it without losing them all, especially since I strongly suspect it’s the taskbar that’s causing the issues.

I managed to remove the taskbar on the second screen, and everything’s working!
Holycrap, it really was the taskbar that was messing everything up. My only question is, obviously, why?

I’m going to try and add it in again and see if it causes problems.

Confirmed, adding a “Default panel” to my second screen completely borks Plasma, for some reason
