Kdenlive 24.08.3 unable to render, stuck at 99%

Hi there,

New Kdenlive user here. I’ve downloaded Kdenlive 24.08.3 standalone build for Windows 10, created a new project, added some videos and ready to render.

However, when trying to render the final mp4 with default settings, I get a MLT.exe pop up with giant text ‘INVALID’ shown, then the executable stops responding. The rendering job status in Kdenlive is stuck at 99%.

I can only abort the process, as it seems nothing is progressing anymore. Inspecting the output log, it contains the following:

Started render process: D:/Kdenlive/kdenlive-24.08.3_standalone/bin/melt.exe -progress2 C:/Users/SiLveRLunE/AppData/Local/Temp/kdenlive-qUeoto-1.mlt

Since this is a standalone build, I’ve browsed to

D:\Kdenlive\kdenlive-24.08.3_standalone\lib\mlt

and verified that aforementioned .dll files are present. Not sure why Kdenlive refuses to load the .dlls.

I have tried using the installed build as well, and the problem remains the same.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Have you tried creating a new project with a simple 10 second title clip and render that. A test like this confirms it’s nothing to do with your project.

Just tried that, with just a 5 second title clip, it makes the ‘INVALID’ go away, but melt.exe still hangs, and so is the rendering.

Move the standalone version to the C:\ drive where the OS is installed.
Or you run Kdenlive with administrator prevelege.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I have tried both solutions together (i.e. moved the standalone to C: drive AND ran kdenlive.exe with admin privilege), but the problem remains the same.

I was able to get the same project file with the same videos rendering on my laptop, using the same kdenlive version; interestingly, my laptop does NOT have the MLT pop up window at all when rendering the final video, albeit I’m sure it is running melt.exe in the background.

Going back to older kdenlive versions did not help either. Let me know whats the best way to provide more logs and/or debug data to help.
