As per the topictitle, I got the Flatpak update to 24.12.0 but “Speech to text” is suddenly unconfigurable.
After a clean new install of Mint 22 I installed 24.08.3 and, after installing some additional dependencies, Whisper worked fine.
Then the update arrived and suddenly I get “Cannot find pip.” error when trying to configure “Speech to text”. I re-installed all the dependencies but got reported that everything was up to date.
I did this as I always did per: Speech recognition and automatic captioning on the Kdenlive Flatpak – VKC.sh | Veronica Explains
So I downloaded the app-image but I get the same error. Kdenlive cannot find pip. And I can’t do anything else. Even after un-installing the Flatpak version and emptying cache and all else.
In “Environment” > Python I get basically the same error.
Does anyone know how to get around this?
Did no one run into this? All seems to be installed and worked perfectly with 24.08.3 and not at all with 24.12.0.
Is it my fault or is there a solution I don’t know about?
I suppose there is a configurationfile where Kdenlive is told to look for pip and, hence python etc.
Since the Appimage conducts the exact same behavior, that doesn’t work either.
It’s probably looking at the same configfile. Uninstalling the Flatpak does not help either. So I think aforementioned configfile remains after uninstalling the Flatpak.
I might take a look in this. If, and as soon as, I find a solution, I’ll be posting it here.
Meanwhile, if someone else has the solution, please tell us.
I would like you to try this:
Go to the settings > speech to text.
Now you will see something like “Cannot find pip”
Somewhere above that is a button that says something with “turbo models”. Click on it and see what happens.
I did a few things before that but I don’t know if that made any difference.
Mine works fine again. If anyone still gets an error after the above, I will be happy to tell what I did to achieve this.
For now I’m a bit reluctant to do so because I’m not sure if those steps were necessary.
Thank you very much @dinorf !
This means Kdenlive will detect (and when needed download) all the needed files by simply clicking download multilingual model.
I was not sure the few minor steps I took before this would make a difference.
No worries about your English. It’s just fine.
I wish you and yours a very happy and healthy new year as well.
