We are happy to announce Kdenlive 24.12. This release focuses on bug fixes, improved stability, and usability enhancements across the board. Numerous crashes and glitches have been addressed, including issues with audio capture, effect zones, high DPI display rendering, and subtitle editing. Proxies, rotoscoping, and project management workflows have been significantly refined, resolving lags, incorrect…
This release looks amazing! I can’t wait for this to appear on FlatHub!
Many thanks to the team!
I believe this:
Can also close this report 487947 – Subtitle .srt files are not autosaved with the project file
I haven’t actually crashed the new release to confirm this fix, but they appear to be the same bug.
Thanks for the release.
I had some real troubles with subtitles in the previous release (importing them & also the program ‘forgetting’ that I had saved them), but now I see some big changes were made to subtitles. I should try subtitling again.
it is not in flatpak “channel” available…???
Amazing, thanks to all involved!
I just updated to 24.12.0 on Flathub.
Thanks again to the team for making this happen!
Awesome release! With much useful updates.
I have one consideration though, there’s no (obvious) way to change the style of all the subtitles on one track.
Up until 23.08.3 you changes made on the style editor would apply to all the sub clips in the track. Now when no clip is selected or if multiple clips are selected all the edit options are greyed out and if you select one clip only the changes apply only to it.
If I use the subtitle manager there seem to be an option to change the subs to all the clips in a track, only it doesn’t work. I change it and all the existing clips keep the Default style.
I haven’t used it yet to know the new interface, but it seems a major and very welcome change in this release is support for ASS subtitles …
Previously with the SRT ones, the only option was to change the style for all subtitles - but ASS supports individually styling each subtitle (and much more if your player also supports it).
You can create any number of styles to apply to them as you please. If you want to change properties of it for “all of them”, you probably want to go into the style editor and make those changes to the “Default style”, or whichever style they are using.
If something about that is actually not working, you should probably open a separate thread to work through that …
There seems to be a regression with saving an effects stack in this one. If you try to, it crashes kdenlive creating an ‘empty’ custom effect using the name and description but containing no effects.
Confirmed that saving the same effect stack works if I open the project with 24.08.3 instead, so it’s new with the effect interface changes in this release.
Thanks for reporting this here. Can I bother you to log a bug report for that? Thanks!
Yeah - I’m running through a simple (60 clips, 40min of footage) project right now to see what shakes out and what’s really changed before I try this one out on the larger in-progress projects I still have running (and do something accidentally irreversible to them) - so once that’s done, I’ll dig a bit more into all those things and make some bug reports with what I know.
Just noting them quickly here to remind me to do that, and share awareness.
It looks like there’s an issue with applying some previously saved effect stacks too … I have one I commonly use with:
- Draw box | transform | Draw box | transform | Motion tracking
and oddly, it’s the two Draw Box effects that choke in 24.12.0. I get an error about configuring the filter graph for them, and their dialogs are created but the effects are completely non functional. If I drag a new Draw Box in to replace each of them they work fine.
In the saved custom effect they look like:
<effect id="avfilter.drawbox">
<property name="av.t">3</property>
<property name="av.color">0x00ff00ff</property>
<property name="av.h">0</property>
<property name="av.w">0</property>
<property name="av.y">0</property>
<property name="av.x">0</property>
</effect>
When I save them into the project file, the broken copies look like:
<filter id="filter100">
<property name="mlt_service">avfilter.drawbox</property>
<property name="kdenlive_id">avfilter.drawbox</property>
<property name="av.x"/>
<property name="av.y"/>
<property name="av.w"/>
<property name="av.h"/>
<property name="av.color">0x00ff00ff</property>
<property name="av.t"/>
<property name="kdenlive:collapsed">0</property>
</filter>
While the newly created (working) ones look like:
<filter id="filter100">
<property name="mlt_service">avfilter.drawbox</property>
<property name="kdenlive_id">avfilter.drawbox</property>
<property name="av.x">00:00:16.817=0</property>
<property name="av.y">00:00:16.817=0</property>
<property name="av.w">00:00:16.817=0</property>
<property name="av.h">00:00:16.817=0</property>
<property name="av.color">0x00ff00ff</property>
<property name="av.t">00:00:16.817=3</property>
<property name="kdenlive:collapsed">0</property>
</filter>
I can’t save the newly working stack to see what it would look like (because of the crash noted above) …
On the plus side though, it seems saving the project files has become deterministic! Which I’m extremely happy about, since it makes diffing changes between them trivially possible.
Fantastically great new filters: HSL Primaries and HSL Range.
Now you can finally remove the red cast from faces quite easily without affecting the other colors. Great.
Kdenlive is getting better and better, what a great Christmas arrangement.
A thousand thanks to the makers.
Personally, I think there needs to be a shortcut to raise or lower the pitch of the audio source.
Is it just me or is the flatpak version lacking the new effects? After upgrading I can’t see the HSL Primary effect and digging into the installation, there is no hslprimaries file.
