Kdenlive ||| Attribution

I use Kdenlive for freelance work. Is the use of downloadable resources in Kdenlive (effects, transitions, plugins, etc.) completely free, or does it require attribution by me or my clients?

I am not a lawyer and none of this legal advice.
If you mean standard kdenlive without any third party plugins, you do not need to attribute or include licensing if you do NOT modify the source code and distribute it. Though an attribution wouldn’t hurt. Kdenlive is under the GPL, so you don’t have to worry about it turning proprietary on you.

As for third party plugins like the shadert0y plugin, check the licensing. Non code assets like images are always under a different breed of licensing than source code, such as creative commons which usually does have an attribution clause.

tl;dr: always check the license terms. If it says in the terms you must attribute, then you must. But it is always nice to attribute if you don’t have to.

“Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike” Does it apply to the distribution of the plugin itself, or is it also required for the end user (me or my clients)?

The license of the tool does not affect the license of the output.

(If the opposite was true, no-one would be able to do anything with proprietary tools)

Thanks. That puts my mind at ease. :innocent: :innocent: :innocent:
