KDEnlive Audio delay/latency

okay listen I know a lot of people talk about audio issues for this software, but I’ve never seen anyone talk about something quite like the problem I’ve been having.

I’m running CachyOS with the latest version of KDEnlive on wayland plasma, whenever I insert a video clip with audio, the audio I’m hearing is about .25 to .5 seconds delayed than what I’m seeing.

I’ve tried everything, using proxys, making the preview resolution smaller, tweaking the settings, nothing has worked, and every video on YouTube about it just gives some BS solution that doesn’t even fix the problem and just gives some cheap work around. This is super frustrating since the videos I’m editing need precise audio line up.

here are my PC specs:
**OS: CachyOS x86_64
DE: KDE Plasma 6.6.3
CPU: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-12700K @ 4.80 GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
Memory: 32 GiB | DDR5

can somebody please help me??

Perhaps the reason is that no-one is having the problem you are having?

Can you share examples so that we can test it? Small snippets (10-15s) should suffice.

Hello, thanks for your response, so funny thing just happened. I loaded up kdenlive, put in an audio sync test, and started recording the audio latency so you could see video evidence. I then stopped the recording, looked at it, and there was no audio latency in the video! It was the weirdest thing ever since there was clearly latency when I was hearing it outside the recording, but it wasn’t there on the recording.

So then I tried something that I didn’t expect to work. I use bluetooth earbuds as my main headphones on my PC, I have wired IEMs but I don’t use them because the left ear is like 80% quieter than the right one for some reason. So I thought, “Bluetooth can sometimes have issues, let me try my old Wired earbuds and see if that fixes it.” so I did, and you’ll never guess what happened. It worked.

This is pretty weird since my bluetooth earbuds have NO latency anywhere else, but on kdenlive it does. Except this is what I THOUGHT, until I did another test outside of Kdenlive and compared to my wired earbuds, there actually IS latency on some things like spotify.

So it turns out I have been using some faulty bluetooth earbuds and unknowingly giving my self a worse audible experience than if I just got new IEMs.

Anyways, thanks for being the one to help me realize this. Have a good day!

They aren’t “faulty”, at least not in this respect, and this is not a surprise. They are simply the wrong tool for the job, doing it exactly how they were designed.

my bluetooth earbuds have NO latency

If you really believe that, I have a faster-than-light car, a perpetual motion machine, and some time travel bracelets to sell you : )

Everything has latency, bluetooth just has more of it than most. It’s just that sometimes, like listening to music on a train, that doesn’t matter.

What I meant was that there was no noticeable latency, but yeah. And yes they aren’t really “faulty” but they were the reason.
